Don't Sell, Remodel
When I first began remodeling, it was a fairly simple process. A homeowner would decide to make a change to their home in order to improve their life. Maybe their family was growing so they needed to add a bedroom, or they were tired of drafty windows and wanted to replace them. Sometimes the old yellow and gold tile from the sixties that was in the shower and on the bathroom walls just started to scream "get something new." They wanted walls opened up between living rooms and family rooms to make great rooms. There was plenty of room in the yard so they wanted decks and patios and garages and front porches. They called us and we went to their house to see if we could help. The process was simple because it was a matter of figuring out what would work best, agreeing on a price, getting permits, scheduling and doing the work. Sometimes a homeowner would need help obtaining funds and we would steer them in the right direction. I loved it: great projects, great clients.
Then the craziness came. You could use the TV remote to watch several different shows at one time about "flipping" houses. And it seemed like all of a sudden remodeling changed from being about making your home a better place to live to being about how much money could be made when it was sold.
Not everyone followed along, of course, and we still did plenty of projects for people who had no intention of selling their homes any time soon. But we did an enormous number of projects in homes that were placed on the market right after we were done.
Please dont get the impression that I am complaining because, after all, I am in the business. It just seemed for quite a while that we were not remodeling homes, just houses. We have always been a company that has tried to listen carefully to what our clients are asking, offer suggestions and then deliver professional service with results that are enjoyed.
Now, the crazy times are over, and we are able to return to our roots. We are doing projects that folks truly want, that will make their home a better place to live. The planning stages of projects such as bathrooms and kitchens are taking a little longer, just like they used to, so that folks can make sure the fixtures and cabinets are just right for them. Homeowners are doing maintenance items to protect their long-term investment, just like they used to. We are starting to get more calls for additions as decisions are being made to stay in their homes, just like they used to. Some of you have known me for a long time.
Some of you have been clients of Case Handyman and Remodeling, a national franchise, and did not know it was my company and that I have been remodeling for 25 plus years. Thank all of you for your business over the years.
I want to tell you first that I am getting more personally involved again through a separate company, Jerry Harris Remodeling, that will exist along with Case Handyman.
We will continue to service our existing and future clients with handyman and small job services through CASE. But as you stick your toe in the water with a larger project such as complete bathroom remodels, kitchens and especially additions and whole-house remodels it will be Jerry Harris Remodeling that comes to the rescue. I have been in this business through several ups and downs in the housing market. I know how and want to help you plan and accomplish the work you want done in your home so that you can make it a better place for you and your family.
Give me a call.
